Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Kitab Nahwu Jurumiyah Jawan curriculum and its impact on the ability of students at Madrasah Diniyah Tri Bhakti At-Taqwa to read classical Islamic texts. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving teachers and students as research subjects. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Jurumiyah Javanese Grammar textbook is carried out through structured stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. The learning process utilizes the sorogan and bandongan methods, accompanied by explanations of grammatical rules using a Javanese language approach to facilitate students’ understanding of Arabic language structure. This approach helps students grasp concepts of i’rab, sentence structure, and word functions in a more systematic manner. The implications of this learning indicate an improvement in the ability to read classical Islamic texts, particularly the Fathul Qorib, as evidenced by fluency in reading, accuracy in applying vowel marks, and comprehension of the text’s content. Additionally, the students’ confidence in reading and explaining the text’s content has increased. These findings indicate that the use of the mother tongue facilitates the understanding of abstract concepts and enhances students’ engagement in learning. Thus, the teaching of the Kitab Nahwu Jurumiyah Jawan makes a positive contribution as an effective alternative method for teaching Arabic grammar in Islamic educational institutions.
