Reviewer Guidelines

Assyfa Journal of Islamic Studies (AJIS)

The AJIS Review Philosophy

Assyfa Journal of Islamic Studies (AJIS) operates on a Double-Blind Peer Review system. As a reviewer, you play a critical role in maintaining the academic integrity and innovative spirit of our publication. We seek evaluations that are rigorous yet constructive, focusing on how manuscripts contribute to the integration of Islamic values within modern STEM, Social Sciences, and Pedagogy (SoTL).

General Evaluation Criteria

1. Originality & Novelty

Does the manuscript provide a new perspective or empirical data that bridges Islamic studies with contemporary disciplines? We prioritize "high-novelty" integration.

2. Methodological Rigor

Is the research design sound? For STEM-Islamic studies, are technical metrics accurate? Is the pedagogical framework applied correctly?

3. Ethical Dimensions

Does the paper adhere to Islamic ethics (Akhlaq) and global standards? Are citations appropriate and updated (last 5-10 years)?

4. Language & Flow

English must be of high academic quality. If the logic is sound but grammar is weak, suggest revision for proofreading.

The Review Process

1

Initial Assessment: Confirm that the manuscript falls within our Scope (STEM, Social, SoTL, or Arts).

2

Integrity Check: Ensure there is no conflict of interest or competing interest.

3

Detailed Critique: Provide specific comments on Abstract, Intro, Methods, Results, and Discussion.

4

Recommendation: Select: Accept, Minor/Major Revision, Resubmit, or Decline.

Ethical Standards (COPE Compliance)

AJIS follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines:

  • Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding manuscript content.
  • Avoid personal gain from any information within unpublished papers.
  • Be objective; avoid personal criticism of the author.
  • Report suspected plagiarism or data fabrication to the Editor.

Special Focus: SoTL Reviews

Reviewers for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) cluster should look for:

• Integration Evidence: How specifically are Islamic values woven into the syllabus foundations?

• Outcome Measurement: Is there data on student response or learning improvement?

• Replicability: Can another educator apply this integrated model?

THANK YOU FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE GLOBAL ADVANCEMENT OF ISLAMIC KNOWLEDGE
