Publication Ethics

Assyfa Journal of Islamic Studies (AJIS) is committed to the highest standards of research integrity. This statement outlines the ethical behavior required of all parties involved in the publishing process. Our policies are aligned with the Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors as defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1

Duties of the Editorial Board

Decision Autonomy: The Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team hold full responsibility and authority to reject/accept an article based on the scientific quality of the work, without regard to the author’s institutional affiliation or personal background.

Fairness and Impartiality: Manuscripts are evaluated solely on their intellectual content. The journal maintains a strict policy against any form of discrimination or bias based on gender, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, or political philosophy.

Reviewer Selection: Editors must ensure that peer reviewers are experts in the relevant field and have no known conflicts of interest with the authors or the research topic.

Confidentiality Maintenance: Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher.

2

Duties of Peer Reviewers

Constructive Feedback: Reviewers should provide objective, technical, and detailed feedback that assists the authors in improving their manuscript. Personal criticism is strictly prohibited.

Disclosure of Malpractice: Reviewers must alert the editor to any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

Timely Response: Reviewers are expected to submit their reports within the journal's timeframe. If they cannot meet the deadline, they must inform the editor immediately to allow for the recruitment of an alternative reviewer.

Confidentiality of Assets: Reviewers must not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the express written consent of the author.

3

Duties of Authors

Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works. Plagiarism in all its forms—from 'passing off' another's paper as the author's own, to copying or paraphrasing substantial parts of another's paper without attribution—constitutes unethical publishing behavior.

Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. The corresponding author ensures that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper.

Ethics in Research: If the work involves human subjects, the author must ensure the manuscript contains a statement that all procedures were performed in compliance with relevant laws and institutional guidelines and that institutional committee(s) have approved them.

Conflict of Interest: All authors must disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.

Corrections, Retractions, and Ethical Concerns

AJIS recognizes that the scholarly record must be accurate. If a significant error is discovered post-publication, the journal will issue a Correction or Erratum. In cases where the findings are invalid or if there is proven research misconduct (plagiarism, redundant publication, data fabrication), a Retraction will be issued in accordance with COPE Guidelines.

Any individual may notify the Editorial Office of suspected misconduct. All complaints will be investigated by the Editorial Board, and the journal reserves the right to contact the author's institution or funding body if necessary.

Open Access & Licensing

AJIS publishes under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. Authors retain copyright while allowing others to distribute and build upon the work, provided proper credit is given.

Archiving & Preservation

To ensure long-term digital preservation, AJIS is archived in LOCKSS and CLOCKSS. This ensures that the scientific content remains accessible to the global community regardless of future technical shifts.
