The Role of Teachers in Shaping Independent and Responsible Character in Students in Madrasas

The problem of children's independence in Indonesia is still very concerning, more than 70% are still dependent on their parents. Based on the results of the study, the majority of school-age children (70.9%) are still less independent in personal hygiene. This requires a teacher's solution to overcome this problem. The purpose of this study is 1) to analyze the role of teachers in forming independent and responsible characters of students, and to analyze supporting and inhibiting factors in forming independent and responsible characters at MTss Hasan Munadi Ponorogo. In implementing this study, a qualitative approach was applied based on considerations regarding the data collected in the form of qualitative descriptive analysis, with the type of field research at Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Researchers as key instruments. This study was conducted at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Ma'arif Hasan Munadi Ponorogo, with 7 informants selected purposively. Data collection through in-depth interviews with the principal, teachers and students, supplemented by observation and documentation. Data analysis through data reduction, display and data verification. The findings of this study are that there are three dominant roles of teachers in forming independent character and student responsibility, namely the role of facilitator, educator and evaluator in character education. While the supporting factors are 8 supporting factors and 8 inhibiting factors from teachers, students, parents, institutions and the social environment.
